The SE Wales Club's 2009 Blorenge Party and Fly-in

SE Wales Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club 2009 Blorenge Fly-in

The Blorenge Party and Fly-in is back again in 2009.

Don‘t miss the return of this fun-filled 3 day Bank Holiday Event!
With advance ticket sales at an all time high, it looks as though the Blorenge Party and Fly-in is one of this Summer‘s must-attend events.

The event will again be based along side the river Usk, on 20 acres of picturesque river meadows, at Pen-y-Worlod Farm in Abergavenny. This year the BPC are sharing the venue with us, so it should be a great opportunity to mingle with pilots from all over the country.

This spectacular location has ample space for the marquees, food stands, camping, and toilet blocks, with enough room left over for a good sized landing field for paraglider pilots. Hang glider pilots should however use the nearby landing field at Castle Meadows.

As in previous years, this will be a family orientated event.

We will again be providing a free minibus shuttle service to take pilots to and from whichever of our sites are flyable over the weekend, and there will also be showers on site for a quick clean up after a good days flying.

This year we have two marquees, so there will be one marquee for traders and events, and another one for beer and entertainment. Traders coming this year include Axis UK, Axis Paragliding, UK Air Sports, Sky Paragliders, and Red Dragon Paragliders.

Tom Payne will be giving a talk at around 5.00pm on Saturday evening, then at around 7.00pm there will be a model aircraft display with Mark Leavesley. On Sunday evening at around 5.00pm John Sylvester will be introducing a premiere of his latest film "Birdman of Carakorum", and at around 7.00pm there will be a model helicopter display with Bob Johnson.

On Saturday evening there will be two bands in the Main marquee, and on Sunday evening more live music and a DJ till late into the night.

There will again be a hog roast on Saturday night, and a catering company on site to supply food throughout the weekend from dawn till dusk.

Three nights camping, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, is included in the "weekend" ticket price.

Weekend tickets (includes camping)
Single ticket £45.00

On-line ticket sales have now closed, but don‘t despair, you can still by tickets on the gate when you arrive.

This year it will also be possible to purchase a "day" ticket on the gate. These cost £10 and do not include camping or use of the free minibus service. A special parking area for day visitors has been created just inside the gate to the site.

If you are unfamiliar with the area, the most straightforward routes are:

Location of the event field for the 2006 Blorenge Fly-in From the M4: Take the A4042 and follow the signs to Abergavenny. You will eventually arrive at a large elongated just outside of Abergavenny. Turn left, and take the A465 Dual Carriage way "Heads of the Valleys Road" west towards Merthyr Tydfil. Then take the first "real turning" on the left heading towards Llanfoist and Abergavenny. Take care there is a turn off shortly before this one, that just goes to an industrial unit.

At the T junction, turn right onto the B4246 towards Abergavenny. This road will take you back under the A465 "Heads of the Valleys Road" towards Abergavenny. When you reach the roundabout by the Waitrose supermarket, continue across onto the A4143 (Merthyr Road) towards Abergavenny town centre. A couple of hundred yards along that road you will see the "Bridge Inn" on your right and a stone bridge over the river Usk straight ahead of you. Turn left down the narrow lane immediately before the stone bridge. Continue along the lane, past the cemetery, and eventually it will bend to the left, with the gate to Pen-y-Worlod Farm straight ahead of you.

From the M50: Take the A40 Dual Carriage way south towards Newport and Abergavenny. At Raglan, take the slip road on your left and crossover the dual carriage way to continue on the A40 towards Abergavenny. Take care at this junction because the main road appears to continue south, but in fact changes to the A449. Continue along the A40 until you reach the outskirts of Abergavenny. You will then arrive at a large elongated roundabout. Go straight across, and take the A465 Dual Carriage way "Heads of the Valleys Road" west towards Merthyr Tydfil. Then take the first "real turning" on the left heading towards Llanfoist and Abergavenny. Take care there is a turn off shortly before this one, that just goes to an industrial unit.
