Ordnance Survey maps are based on the OSGB36 ^TM datum (Ordnance Survey Great Britain 1936). This uses the Airy 1830 ellipsoid to provide a regional best fit for Great Britain. Modern GPS mapping, as used by Google, is usually based on the WGS84 datum, and uses a modified version of the GRS80 ellipsoid.

If your GPS receiver has been set to display OS Grid References using the OSGB36 datum, use the default setting of OSGB36. The Grid Reference entered will then be converted to co-ordinates based on the WGS84 datum used by Google maps.
